Carlsbad, California-based Alphatec powers the platform with its standardized EOSedge scans along with the AI technology. The company also reported the first EOS Insight-informed surgeries performed by Dr. David G. Schwartz and Dr. Craig McMains at OrthoIndy Hospital.
Schwartz said in a news release that EOS Insight enabled him to enter surgery with an efficient, AI-driven, customized plan. It also delivered precise alignment measurements and rods pre-contoured for the long construct, increasing confidence in the OR.
“EOS Insight is truly the most comprehensive spine innovation I’ve witnessed in my 35-year clinical tenure,” Schwartz said.
The cloud-based software platform from Alphatec leverages the precision and capabilities of the company’s EOSedge competition. Pairing that with AI, it delivers crucial information throughout the multiple stages of spine care.
EOS Insight delivers access to integrated, efficient point-of-care applications. Those include AI-driven alignment calculation, informed 3D surgical planning simulations, patient-specific rods, intraoperative reconciliation and post-operative patient and practice analytics. Data generated through the applications also fuels continued progress toward more predictable spine care, the company said.
“The debut of EOS Insight marks a pivotal moment for ATEC,” said Pat Miles, chair and CEO. “Its development harnessed unequivocal spine-focused knowhow to integrate informatics into every step of the clinical workflow. Unlike the plethora of duplicative “enabling technology” in spine, Insight modernizes surgery, replacing archaic clinical practices to improve patient outcomes. EOS Insight positions ATEC to be the standard-bearer in spine.”
