Alcon profits, revenues jump 10 percent
Alcon Inc. (NYSE:ACL) reported profits of $521 million or $1.71 per diluted share, on sales of $1.81 billion during the three months ended Dec. 31. That compares with profits of $458 million, or $1.51 per diluted share, on sales of $1.72 million during the same period last year.
Full-year profits were $2.21 billion, or $7.27 per diluted share, on sales of $7.18 billion. That compares with profits of $2.01 billion, or $6.66 per diluted share, on sales of $6.50 billion in the previous year.

Echo results mixed for 2010
Echo Therapeutics Inc. (OTC:ECTE) reported full-year losses of $4.3 million, or 15 cents per diluted share, on sales of $428,460. That compares with losses of $13.5 million, or 61 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $1.3 million in 2009.

Advanced Cell Technology falls deeper into the red
Advanced Cell Technology Inc. (OTC:ACTC) reported net losses of $41.4 million, or 3 cents per deluted share, on sales of $109,570 during the three months ended Dec. 31. That compares with profits of $12.9 million, or 2 cents per share, on sales of $630,867 during the same period in 2009.

Sorin Group reported a full-year net profit of €39.1 million ($55.5 million) on consolodated revenues of €745.8 million ($1.06 billion). That compares with a profit of €23.2 million ($33.3 million) on sales of €711.0 million ($1.02 billion) in 2009.

MedQuist annual profits rocket
MedQuist Holdings Inc. (NSDQ:MEDH) reported net income of $2.1 million, or 4 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $110.5 million during the three months ended Dec. 31. That compares with a profit of $962,000, or 1 cent per diluted share, on revenue of $85.8 million during the same period in 2009.
Full-year profits were $8.5 million, or 16 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $417.3 million. That compares with profits of $735,000, or a loss of 6 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $353.9 million in 2009.

Medidata Solutions sales increase 19 percent
Medidata Solutions (NSDQ:MDSO) reported profits of $13.3 million, or 55 cents per diluted share, on sales of $47.4 million during the three months ended Dec. 31. That compares with a profit of $1.74 million, or 7 cents per diluted share, on sales of $37.5 million during the same period last year.
Full-year profits were $22.8 million, or 95 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $166.5 million. That compares with profits of $5.2 million, or 25 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $140.4 million in 2009.

HemaCare dips into the red
HemaCare Corp. (OTC:HEMA) reported losses of $197,000, or 2 cents per diluted share, on sales of $7.0 million during the three months ended Dec. 31. That compares with a profits of $195,000, or 2 cents per diluted share, on sales of $8.2 million during the same period last year.
