Accuray, MedPhoton ink deal to integrate ImagingRing into CyberKnife

May 2, 2016 By Fink Densford

Accuray reports strong Q4, weak FY 2015 earningsAccuray (NSDQ:ARAY) said today it inked a collaborative deal with MedPhoto GmbH to integrate its ImagingRing volumetric image guidance system into Accuray’s CyberKnife radiosurgery system.

The ImagingRing system provides a range of imaging capabilities including large field-of-view cone beam CT, the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said.

Through the agreement, Accuray will maintain exclusive development, sales and distribution rights to the ImagingRing for use in adaptive radiation therapy, SBRT and robotic radiosurgery.

“This collaboration with medPhoton enables us to partner with a company which, like ours, is committed to using innovative solutions to improve the lives of cancer patients. The Imaging Ring represents the next generation in imaging technology and, together with the CyberKnife System, has the potential to transform the radiation therapy treatment experience for clinicians and their patients,” Accuray CEO Joshua Levine said in a press release.

MedPhoton specializes in developing and manufacturing radiotherapy medical imaging devices, with a focus on creating more comfortable solutions in radiotherapy for patients while improving clinical workflows.

“The partnership with Accuray provides us with the opportunity to integrate our leading-edge imaging technology with the CyberKnife System, one of the industry’s most advanced treatment delivery systems. We believe the products will complement each other and enable clinicians to truly optimize the radiation treatments they can provide their patients,” MedPhoton CEO Heinz Deutschmann said in a prepared statement.

In February, Accuray and GE Healthcare (NYSE:GE) said they signed a collaborative agreement to develop financing options for Accuray’s CyberKnife and TomoTherapy systems. The companies said they hope the new financing program will make it easier for clinicians in Europe to offer patients treatments with the associated systems.

The collaborative deal will allow hospitals, clinics and medical practitioners to lease Accuray equipment and services through a turnkey offering combining bunker construction, hardware, software, services and maintenance in one finance agreement.
