Amicas Inc. got a pretty good bargain when it acquired Birmingham, Ala.-based medical imaging software firm Emageon in April.
The Boston-based medical imaging software and services company spent a reported $39 million in cash to purchase Emageon back in April.
But Amicas recouped $18.3 million of that in cash held on Emageon’s books, meaning the actual price was closer to $21 million, according to a filing with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission.
Emageon posted nearly $70 million in revenues last year, more than $20 million more than Amicas pulled down.
Amicas has to spend some coin integrating the companies, however. It’ll pay out about $4.6 million in cash for severance and related costs this quarter after shuttering Emageon’s corporate headquarters and laying off more than 100 employees.
