Tandem Diabetes Care won FDA clearance for its new web-based software, called t:connect, a PC- and Mac-compatible program designed for use with Tandem’s touch-screen t:slim insulin pump.
The t:connect system features HIPAA-compliant servers, built-in "smart logic" for accurate readings and a logbook for easy tracking and sharing, according to the company. The software also allows users to share blood glucose readings with their doctors, and features interactive graphs and charts to help patients note patterns in their daily habits that might help physicians refine treatment.
"We developed the t:connect Application with the same emphasis on ease of use employed in the development of the t:slim Insulin Pump," Tandem president & Kim Blickenstaff said in a prepared statement. "The software was designed for speed and simplicity to encourage users to upload and review their data more frequently, and to improve the efficiency and productivity of visits with healthcare providers."
Tandem Diabetes Care originally launched the t:slim insulin pump in November of 2011. The new t:connect software should be available by the end of the month for patients to download.
