Massachusetts-based Asahi Kasei (TYO:3407) subsidiary Zoll Medical touted its 2nd acquisition this month, this time nabbing assets of German-based Lifebridge Medizintechnik.
Lifebridge develops portable circulatory and respiratory support systems for emergency settings, according to a press release. The company’s flagship device is the 1st of its kind that can be used by all attending physicians without the presence of a perfusionist, Zoll president James Palazzolo said in prepared remarks.
"The unique advantage of this portable emergency system is that hemodynamic support can be provided immediately to the patient whenever the crisis occurs," according to the Zoll press statement. "The primary usage of percutaneous cardiopulmonary bypass can be initiated in the emergency room, in the ICU or in the catheterization lab by any trained health professional within minutes."
The Lifebridge device has CE Mark approval for sale in the European Union.
The deal is Zoll’s 2nd this month, following the company’s acquisition of CoAxia Inc.’s catheter-based intellectual property, including the NeuroFlo and FloControl blood flow redistribution devices.
