Tandem Diabetes Care (NSDQ:TNDM) said it began marketing its new t:flex insulin pump, 4 months after winning FDA clearance for the device.
The San Diego-based company is best known for its flagship t:slim touch-screen insulin pump. The t:flex device is an updated version, with a larger, 480-unit insulin reservoir designed for patients who have greater insulin needs. Tandem bills it as the largest-capacity insulin pump of its kind available in the U.S.
The t:flex device also has a built-in rechargeable battery and micro-USB port for easy charging and quick data transfer to the t:connect Mac- and PC-compatible data management software, Tandem said.
"We believe the t:flex pump addresses an important unmet need in the diabetes community … and we are proud to offer this option for people with greater insulin needs," president & CEO Kim Blickenstaff said in prepared remarks.
Tandem said it’s taking orders for t:flex now and expects shipments to start in June.
Tandem’s stock dipped -1.2% to $12.03 today in mid-afternoon trading.
