Medical device sales reps are making on average $147,857 per year, according to a new survey report from MedReps.com, a solid $25,000 more than their counterparts in pharmaceuticals, who made the least of all positions polled.
A total of 4,000 medical sales professionals were polled in the survey, with a total of 3,295 employed medical sales processionals included in the report.
The average total income across all polled professionals was $145,147, with biotech sales reps making the most, bringing in $165,028 on average. Surgical device sales professionals were close behind, recording income of $163,654 on average.
Sales representatives at manufacturers reported the highest incomes, making on average $157,793 at large employers, $152,534 at medium sized employers and $134,105 at small employers, according to the MedReps report.
Gender played a major factor, according to the report. A total of 71% of the polled professionals identified as male, and reported average incomes of $154,020, over $20,000 higher than the $123,910 average for women in the field.
Numbers are up from 2015 across the board, with the average medical sales rep making 2.5% more than the 2015 average. Average base salary saw an even larger increase of 8.5%, while median base salary stayed stable at $75,000.
