Three companies received $500,000 grants from the Mass. Life Sciences Center.
The quasi-public agency awarded the grants to Cambridge, Mass.-based Boston Biochem Inc. and Tetragenetics Inc. and Somerville, Mass.-based Thermedical Inc. to help fund research and development, commercialization and manufacturing. The awards match a federal small business grant each company had previously been awarded.
The program is part of the Commonwealth’s 10-year, $1 billion life sciences initiative, which has not been touched by recent cutbacks to the agency’s budget.
The grants represent the first round of the Center’s $3 million Small Business Matching Grant program, which the agency began accepting applications for in February 2010.
In May, the organization began the 2010 round for its life sciences tax incentive.
