Vision-Sciences Inc. (NSDQ:VSCI) won a five-year supply contract from the federal government for its flexible endoscopes.
The Orangeburg, N.Y.-based company said the contract calls for it to supply all federal healthcare facilities with the devices, including the U.S. Veterans Administration, the Indian Health Service and the Defense Dept.
The federal organizations will be able to purchase Vision-Sciences’ 4000 and 5000 series digital, video-based endoscopes with a high-resolution CCD camera for full-screen imaging. The 5000 series also features an integrated light-emitting diode and a portable digital processing unit. Both lines use the company’s EndoSheaths — sterile, disposable microbial covers for the endoscopes.
"We consider the GSA contract an important step for the company," interim CEO Warren Bielke said in prepared remarks. "We believe our technologies are uniquely suited to provide cost-effective, high performance flexible endoscopy solutions to our government clients in the VA Health Systems and other government healthcare facilities."
It’s the second deal in as many months for Vision-Sciences, which signed a deal with Stryker Corp. (NYSE:SYK) in September to make private-label versions of its cytoscopes for the Kalamazoo, Mich.-based medical device giant.
