More rumors surfaced that Abbott (NYSE:ABT) is looking to make cuts in its workforce, with an Irish paper reporting that nearly 80 employees will be cut from 3 local plants.
Ireland’s RTE News reported that Abbott plans to lay off 29 workers from a Co Longford diagnostics plant, another 29 from a Sligo diagnostics plant and 20 from a Cootehill nutritional facility.
The announcements were allegedly made to staff yesterday evening, when Abbott asked employees to volunteer for "redundancies," according to the paper.
The rumored cuts add to speculation of unspecified layoffs at Abbott’s Illinois headquarters, as reported yesterday by the Chicago Tribune. An Abbott spokesperson declined to confirm or deny either of the reports.
"We continuously assess our operations to ensure we have the right resources in the right locations," external communications senior director Scott Stoffel said.
