MASSDEVICE ON CALL — New York City may have a lot of hurdles to overcome in luring medical device startups, but members of NYC Tech Connect are looking for ways to attract fledgling medtech companies to the Big Apple.

New York City has minimal medtech presence now, but there are growing sectors nearby in Connecticut and New Jersey.

The few companies that have been able to thrive in the city have often done so with the support of local hospitals, and more healthcare groups are showing interest in fostering young medtech groups, according to Xconomy.

New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center has already given birth to 8 biotech startups, and the hospital has a division devoted to developing new medical devices.
