Nurep launched its iPad app designed to connect surgeons and medical device sales representatives over an iOS platform the company says is secure and HIPAA compliant.
Nurep, part of startup accelerator BluePrint Health, debuted the product at the Demo Mobile conference.
The app is desigend to connect surgeons to the closest medical device sales representative to answer questions via a FaceTime-like interface. Because of the 2.3% medical device tax that’s part of the Affordable Care Act, medical device companies are looking to cut the expense of sending representatives to hospitals for device support. In addition, hospitals are looking to cut administrative expenses associated with medical device purchase and maintenance
Nurep CEO Paul Schultz told MobiHealthNews that the app "seamlessly integrates with physician workflow" and will bring "a live, remote medical device rep into the operating room."
Once surgery starts, the iPad is kept in a sterile bag. After surgery is complete, the physician can rate the instructions given by the support representative; this information is then sent back to the medical device company.
Nurep says the product is generating interest in emergency room departments and that contracts with device companies will be announced over the summer.
