3. Harpoon Medical raises $3.8M for mitral valve device
Harpoon Medical is looking to move from concept to the clinic with the $3.8 million it raised in its Series A funding round in support of its mitral repair devices.
Financing was led by Epidarex Capital and joined by Maryland Venture Fund, the Abell Foundation and “medical device executives, doctors and successful business executives in the Maryland area,” Harpoon said. Read more
2. Abbott puts $60M in Malaysia
Chicago healthcare giant Abbott is preparing to open a new manufacturing facility and add 500 new employees in Malaysia, according to local reports.
Abbott is investing $60 million into the new manufacturing facility in hopes of tapping into the country’s cataract surgery market. Abbott estimates that there will be around 105,000 cataract surgeries performed in Malaysia this year. Read more
