3. Med-El wins FDA approval for Synchrony MRI-safe cochlear implant
Med-El USA said it plans to start selling its Synchrony MRI-safe cochlear implant in the spring of 2015, following the FDA’s decision to sign off on the novel device.
The Durham, N.C.-based company said the FDA approved the Synchrony device for use with 3.0 Tesla MRI systems, without the surgical removal of the device’s internal magnet, claiming it as the sole such implant available in the U.S. for that indication. Read more
2. Ex-Insulet CFO Roberts lands at Avedro
Ex-Insulet CFO Brian Roberts landed at Avedro as its new finance chief, the laser eye surgery company said this week.
Roberts is replacing Rhonda Bracey, who’s staying on to assist in the transition until her move to the West Coast to pursue other opportunities, according to a press release. Read more
1. Medtronic’s $43B Covidien buy could close today
Medtronic said this morning that the Irish High Court sanctioned its pending $43 billion acquisition of Covidien, saying it expects the mega-merger to close later today.
Fridley, Minn.-based Medtronic said trading in its shares and Covidien’s will continue until the market’s close today, with shares of the new Medtronic hitting the public markets tomorrow. Read more
