3. Invuity registers for $69M IPO
Invuity this month filed registration papers for an initial public offering that could bring in as much as $69 million for the advanced surgical lighting maker.
San Francisco-based Invuity said it plans to list on the NASDAQ exchange under the “IVTY” symbol. Read more
2. Tendyne mitral valve study launches in U.S.
Tendyne Holdings this month said its transcatheter mitral valve implant was implanted in the 1st U.S. patient as part of a global feasibility study.
The Tendyne device is designed to treat patients with symptomatic mitral regurgitation of degenerative or functional etiology – a condition that can lead to heart failure or death. The 1st 2 patients in the trial were implanted in Great Britain and Australia in December 2014, according to Tendyne founding investor Luxembourg-based Boulle Medtech Ltd. Read more
1. Punitive damages claims stand in Boston Scientific pelvic mesh case
Boston Scientific this month lost a bid to remove claims for punitive damages from 1 of the 15,000 product liability lawsuits brought over its pelvic mesh products.
Sharon Kay Pelkey was implanted with Boston Scientific’s Advantage Fit device for treating stress urinary incontinence in February 2010 in Virginia, according to court documents. Pelkey claimed that the implantation resulted in multiple complications, prompting her to sue Boston Scientific in April 2013 for negligence, strict liability for design defect, manufacturing defect, and failure to warn, breaches of express and implied warranties and punitive damages, according to the documents.
