Reps. Rogers and Markey revive unpopular pediatric med-tech bill spiked by the FDA

Representatives Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) introduce a bill that would implement an FDA rule requiring pediatric data on certain medical device applications after the FDA withdrew the rule amid significant opposition.

Congressional Representatives Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) introduced a bill that would require medical device makers to include pediatric information in certain FDA applications.

The same rule had been earlier withdrawn by the FDA after the agency received "significant adverse comment" upon implementing the change in the summer of 2010.

A federal jury finds that Sigma International General Medical Apparatus did not infringe on CareFusion's infusion pump technology patents.

A federal jury this week decided against CareFusion (NYSE:CFN) in a patent lawsuit filed against Sigma International General Medical Apparatus over drug pump technology.

CareFusion had accused Sigma, in a lawsuit filed in February 2010, of patent infringement with the Spectrum intravenous infusion pumps, a claim that jurors rejected.

A federal court finds that W.L. Gore was not a co-inventor of vascular grafts patented by C.R. Bard, affirming a lower court's $371 million decision in favor of Bard.

A U.S. federal judge this week upheld C.R. Bard's (NYSE:BCR) win against W.L. Gore & Associates over vascular graft patents.

The court affirmed Bard's $371 million win from a 2007 decision when an Arizona jury found that Gore willfully infringed on patents for vascular tubing.

FDA warns on illegal dental X-ray units sold online

The FDA warns that certain dental X-ray units sold online from outside the U.S. and shipped directly to customers haven't been evaluated for safety and effectiveness and may expose patients to harmful radiation.

The FDA issued a warning today that some hand-held X-ray units marketed toward dental health providers and veterinarians haven't been cleared by the FDA and may pose risks to users and patients.

The Washington State Dept. of health altered the FDA after testing one of the devices, purchased online, and found that the device didn't comply with X-ray performance standards.
