GE Healthcare completes ONI Medical Systems buyout

GE Healthcare (NYSE: GE) completed its acquisition of ONI Medical Systems Inc., a maker of musculoskeletal MRI systems.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a spokesperson at ONI told MassDevice that the 50 workers employed by ONI will stay on at the company's Wilmington, Mass. headquarters as it is folded into GE.

The deal, announced late last month, is part of GE's $3 billion Healthymagination program, which the healthcare colossus initiated in May to develop products and service innovations over the next six years. The goal is to lower costs and increase access to quality healthcare by 15 percent.

ONI Medical, which makes low-cost, dedicated purpose MRI systems, was founded in 1997 by Bob Kwolyk and Pete Roemer.
