Healthcare giants GE Healthcare (NYSE:GE) and Covidien (NYSE:COV) are working together to help clinicians safely monitor infants for life-threatening and respiratory complications.
Covidien said it would integrate Nellcor SpO2 monitoring, a blood oxygenation reading system, along with the SatSeconds alarm management system into GE’s Giraffe and Panda neonatal warmers.
"For more than 25 years, clinicians have relied on our Nellcor cardiac-based pulse oximetry and sensor portfolio to accurately and safely monitor babies in NICU and labor and delivery departments," president Robert White of Covidien respiratory & monitoring solutions said in prepared remarks. "The ability to incorporate the Nellcor line into existing and new GE Giraffe and Panda infant warmers greatly expands access to our trusted technologies that clinicians can rely on for ensuring the highest standard of infant care."
The blood oxygenation readings provide early warnings of dangerous health conditions, the integrated device will monitor blood oxygenation continuously and accurately to help clinicians provide for special care and safety needs of infants, the company said.
The warmer will feature Covidien’s SatSeconds alarm management, which reduces clinically insignificant alarms by 60% in NICU settings, according to the press release.
Covidien and GE Healthcare in May inked a pact to integrate Covidien technologies into GE Healthcare’s patient monitors.
