The Food & Drug Administration wants to talk about nanotechnology.
The watchdog agency’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health is planning a public workshop on medical devices that employ the molecular-level technology.
Specifically, the CDRH is seeking public input on "manufacturing, characterization, and biocompatibility evaluation of medical devices containing or utilizing nanomaterials and nanostructures." The safety and effectiveness of nanotechnology in the medical field and the definition of what constitutes a nanomaterial are the agency’s main concerns.
The workshop is slated for Sept. 23 in Gaithersburg, Md., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
