Rehab and physical therapy devices startup Hollywog landed a pair of FDA nods for its wireless back pain therapy devices, the WiTouch and the WiTouch Pro.
The devices use transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, a process in which electrical signals are transmitted through the skin to stimulate nerve or muscle fibers, to suppress pain signals before they they reach the brain and ramp up the body’s production of pain-relieving endorphins, according to the company’s website.
The WiTouch line represents the 1st wireless, remote-controlled pain relief devices using TENS technology for back pain, according to Hollywog. The company also touts the device as a novel take on an old problem.
"WiTouch is the 1st fresh new design in an electrical stimulation device for back pain in decades," president Chuck Thomas said in prepared remarks. "WiTouch is evidence of Hollywog’s mission to evolve standard medical devices to a new height and fulfill the customers’ desire for unique creative features, high quality and functionality."
The device boasts a slim profile, and the lack of wires or straps means patients can discretely wear it under their clothes, operating the device with or without its remote control.
The Chattanooga, Tenn.-based device startup plans to immediately begin commercial launch through direct sales in the U.S. and through distributors around the world, Thomas added.
The WiTouch device was cleared for over-the-counter sales and the WiTouch Pro was cleared for prescription use.
