Golden, Colo.-based Medical Modeling won FDA clearance for its Virtual Surgical Planning technology, which is now fully available in the U.S. and Canada.
The device allows physicians to plan maxillofacial surgical procedures in a virtual environment, then transferring the plan to the patients, according to the company.
"The entire team at Medical Modeling could not be more pleased with the FDA’s clearance of our VSP System product line. It’s exciting to see personalized technology such as this that benefits the surgeon and the patient really catching hold," president Andy Christensen said in prepared remarks.
The initial applications of the system include orthognathic surgery and reconstruction, applying virtual surgical planning in a variety of procedures.
The VSP Orthognathics applies planning and CAD/CAM surgical splints to the area of orthognathic surgery, and VSP Reconstruction applies planning to the reconstruction of the mandible or maxilla using vascularized grafts from other areas of the body, according to the press release.
