Scotland, UK-based Emblation landed CE Mark approval for its Swift microwave therapy device, featuring microwave technology to ensure accurate and precise ablation targeting to help podiatrists and dermatologists treat skin lesions.
The Swift device provides rapid internal heat generation with minimal pain, and the generator only weighs 9lbs, according to the press release.
"We’ve overcome a number of challenging hurdles to get to this point – perhaps the 2 biggest being the size of the microwave generator and the final cost to the practitioner," CEO Gary Beale said in prepared remarks. "For the 1st time, podiatrists and dermatologists can benefit from the exceptional properties of microwave technology – precise, accurate ablations, incredibly quick treatments and the potential for reducing the risk of scarring."
The microwave systems have been used for treatment in areas of oncology, gynecology, cardiology, but the equipment cannot be used in a small clinic, Beale noted.
The Swift microwave therapy system is not available for sale in the U.S. Emblation said it plans to submit an application for U.S. clearance in the near future.
