MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Analysts are ambivalent about the importance of Abbott (NYSE:ABT) executive Richard Gonzalez’s "misstated" educational background.
Gonzalez may gain some merit as the quintessential self-made man, given recently uncovered reports that he didn’t have the college degrees that Abbott had attributed to him for years.
On the other hand, the discovery raised questions eyebrows about how the mistake was made and why it went uncorrected for so long, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Industry analysts fell on both sides, with some predicting "zero impact" as a result of the news and others questioning Abbott’s explanation that previous statements counting Gonzalez as a master’s degree holder were little more than an administrative mistake.
