ConforMIS Inc. didn’t waste any time after landing CE Mark approval for its iDuo knee implant in the European Union.
The Burlington-based company said a patient in Germany is already using the device, after a June 18 procedure to implant the patient-specific, bicompartmental resurfacing knee replacement device.
The implants, designed for patients with arthritic damage to the medial or lateral and patellofemoral knee compartments, are custom-designed and manufactured using CT scans of patients’ knees generated by the company’s iFit system.
During the procedure, surgeons use the ConforMIS iJig system, template-like devices made using the same CT scans used to manufacture the implant itself, as a guide to resurfacing the facets of the joint.
The company touts the technology as “the first and only patient-specific, bicompartmental resurfacing implant on the market.”
