Australian device company Cochlear Ltd. (ASX:COH) touted CE Mark approval in the European Union for the smallest behind-the-ear sound processor to hit European markets yet.
The company’s Nucleus 6 was built on a brand-new microchip, which packs a punch 5 times more powerful than its predecessor, the Nucleus 5.
Nucleus 6 features the 3rd generation of processing software, called SmartSound iQ, which is able to pick up and refine background noises in different environments. The new sound processor is used in the company’s cochlear implant and behind-the-ear hearing devices.
The Sydney, Australia-based hearing technology company said its Nucleus 6 devices are also wifi-enabled and water-resistant, and the new processor can be integrated in older Cochlear hearing implants.
"Cochlear is working hard to ensure that recipients with earlier implants will soon be able to access this new technology," said CEO Dr. Chris Roberts in prepared remarks.
