Cambridge Heart, Cardiac Science reveal OEM deal

It turns out that Cardiac Science Corp. (CSCX) was the partner Cambridge Heart Inc. (CAMH) brought to the dance in June, when it announced a development deal to create a microvolt T-wave alternans module for a "leading U.S. stress manufacturer."

Tewksbury, Mass.-based Cambridge Heart said the module will be integrated in Cardiac Science's heart stress testing equipment. Cardiac Science is based in Bothell, Wash.

Cambridge Heart is finished developing a prototype of the module, which now must be run through various validation, verification and regulatory hoops before it can hit the market. Nearly five months ago the company announced plans to shift gears and market an OEM version of the MTWA technology to other manufacturers, looking to boost slumping sales of a product it says can determine the risk of a sudden heart attack. At the time, Cambridge Heart cited "competitive considerations" in declining to name its first partner.

In a separate announcement, Cardiac Science said it tapped former Siemens executive Peter Kingma to be vice president of sales and marketing.
