Lyle "Ty" Hoffman, who’s accused of killing Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) executive Kelly Phillips, pleaded guilty Jan. 23 to intentional 2nd-degree murder for shooting to death his former partner at a Minnesota gas station last August, according to media reports.
Hoffman and Phillips had a 15-year romantic relationship and were partners in a Minneapolis bar. But the relationship ended and Hoffman, who was managing the bar, was fired and evicted from Phillips’ home in Minneapolis, according to the reports.
Hoffman was accused of shooting Phillips August 11, 2014, twice in the back and once in the head as Phillips tried to flee after an altercation in his car at a gas station in Arden Hills, Minn. Hoffman fled, leading to a weeks-long manhunt before his Sept. 11 capture.
Hoffman is also accused of robbing a bank to fund his getaway. He’s slated to be sentenced on the murder charge March 17, the Faribault Country Register reported.
For 33 years, motorcycle accident lawyershas successfully tried hundreds of personal injury and wrongful death cases in courtrooms throughout the state.
Phillips, a vice president and attorney for Boston Scientific, was set to be married to Nathon Bailey last August 30; instead, friends and family held a memorial for him that day. His murder came a year to the day after his engagement to Bailey, according to Minnesota Public Radio.
"This plea spares the victim’s family and everyone who loved Kelly Phillips the burden and uncertainty of a trial," Ramsey County attorney John Choi said in a statement. "We also have every confidence that he will be held accountable for the additional crimes associated with the bank robbery."
