MASSDEVICE ON CALL — A couple of medtech’s biggest players were named among the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index’s most environmentally responsible companies.
Abbott (NYSE:ABT) led the sector for the greenest practices, ranked according to "financially material economic, environmental, and social factors."
"Abbott has again emerged as the Industry Group Leader in the Health Care Equipment & Services space, exhibiting leadership in a number of sustainability criteria," according to the announcement. "A focus on innovation is at the core of Abbott’s business and sustainability strategies, which seek to address healthcare challenges through innovation, expand access to patient healthcare, support patients and consumers through engagement and education, and minimize environmental impact."
Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) also made the list, tallying its 4th time being recognized by the DJSWI.
"Medtronic’s commitment to corporate citizenship is centered on creating value and working responsibly in all facets where our business intersects with society, and this commitment is highly aligned with the company’s strategies of therapy innovation, globalization, and economic value," according to a company statement. "The company’s corporate citizenship initiatives implement these strategies by addressing global access to healthcare, product quality and patient safety, ethical business practices, employee engagement and development, and environmental performance."
