The American Red Cross and a biotech company leveled a patent infringement lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) subsidiary Ethicon and a partner, Omrix Biopharmaceuticals, over bandage sealant technology used in Ethicon’s Evarrest bandages.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for Eastern Texas, alleges that Ethicon violates 2 patents held by the Red Cross and STB Lifesaving Technologies with the Evarrest unsupplemented fibrin sealant patches, according to court documents.
The patches, made by Israel’s Omrix, are distributed by Ethicon in the U.S.
The April 16 lawsuit seeks a jury trial, judgments of infringement and willful infringement, damages, pre-judgment interest and legal fees, according to the documents.
