Clear Guide Medical signed a contract with the U.S. Army’s Institute of Surgical Research to test its Clear Guide One physician assistance device. The device will be installed at the USAIR headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, where Dr. Jose Salinas will be the primary investigator.
The Clear Guide One device attaches to existing ultrasound equipment and allows physicians to plot needle or catheter interventions using an ultrasound image, providing real-time needle guidance. The device allows mapping and planning of needle path previous to the initial intervention in hopes of increasing accuracy in placement.
“We are very excited about this partnership with USAISR. ISR is widely acknowledged to be at the forefront of medical technology innovation. Through this partnership we look forward to applying our computer-assisted instrument guidance technology to a number of issues that ISR is addressing,” Clear Guide CEO Dorothee Heisenberg said in prepared remarks.
The Clear Guide One device won 510(k) clearance from the FDA last September and CE Mark approval in the European Union last month.
The company was awarded $1.5 million by the National Institutes of Health earlier in 2015 to fund research into the use of ultrasound imaging for needle insertions.
