His leaving marks the second departure of a business unit president at Medtronic this month. Ariel Mactavish, president of the company’s Respiratory Interventions unit, also announced that she was leaving the company. That move came after Medtronic shared plans to exit the ventilator market in February, also coinciding with the departure of Bob White, EVP and president of the Medical Surgical portfolio for Medtronic.
Di Napoli shared on LinkedIn that his 16-year tenure with Medtronic came to an end. He cited “putting his family’s future, first” as the reason behind his decision.
In his post, he called Medtronic “more than a workplace,” thanking Geoff Martha, Mike Marinaro and Jennifer Stone for their support and guidance. He also noted his pride in the Endoscopy unit and the “privilege and education” he experienced serving Medtronic customers.
“Our time in the U.S. has been incredible, but our hearts stayed in Europe, where our family is,” Di Napoli wrote. “Our desire to be closer to them, at this pivotal time in my daughters’ lives, is the reason we are moving back.”
Medtronic already has a new Endoscopy unit president
Di Napoli also shared that Raj Thomas will be stepping into the role of president of the Endoscopy unit. According to Thomas’ LinkedIn page, he actually assumed the role in February.
Thomas joined Medtronic in 2014 as program director for neuromodulation, GI and urology. He served in a number of roles over the past nine years, with his latest role coming as VP and GM of Mechanical Circulatory Support.
Prior to his time at Medtronic, Thomas spent more than 14 years at Boston Scientific. Di Napoli said Thomas brings “a wealth of knowledge, a visionary mindset a nd a genuine commitment to excellence.”
“His reputation for putting patients first and fostering collaborative success precedes him,” Di Napoli wrote. “I trust that under his guidance, the Endoscopy team will not only continue to flourish but will also scale new heights in advancing healthcare and endoscopic care. I’m excited to see the impact he will make.”
Di Napoli also said he may have an update on his own future soon.
“As sad as I am to leave, I’m also excited that everything I learned during this time will help shape what comes next in my career, and I’ll share more details on that soon,” he wrote. “It’s because of each of you that this chapter was as fulfilling and fun as it was for me. I’ve learned and grown so much, and I wouldn’t change any of it!”
