Twelve of the 32 companies given Excellence in Medical Technologies & Life Sciences awards by Frost & Sullivan have roots in the Bay State.
The global research firm’s annual awards recognize companies that have made major contributions to the medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech and drug discovery and other healthcare fields.
Waltham’s Phase Forward Inc. took home a business intelligence and product line strategy award and the Watch City’s Nomir Medical Technologies Inc. won an advanced microbial destruction innovation medal.
Woburn-based winners included Biotrove, for its drug discovery growth strategy, and Pioneer Surgical Technology Inc. for its orthopedic tissue engineering technology.
Mansfield’s Covidien won an award for an RFID-based biological delivery systems product.
Magellan Biosciences of Chelmsford won an award for its point-of-care heavy metal toxicity testing device and its subsidiary, ESA Biosciences, also of Chelmsford, received an innovation award for its Three-Minute LeadCare II test, which identifies lead poisoning in children.

• Foxborough’s ApaTech, North American Device Biologics Company of the Year Award.
• North Andover’s Aurora Imaging Technology Inc., North American Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanners Vertical Market Penetration Leadership Award.
• Boston-based GE Healthcare, North American Medical Imaging Growth Strategy Leadership of the Year Award.
• Intel Corp., which has operations in Hudson and Cambridge, North American Home Health Devices Product of the Year Award.
• Andover’s Philips Healthcare, North American Medical Imaging Product Innovation of the Year Award and North American Patient Monitoring Company of the Year Award.
• Siemens Healthcare, which has locations in East Walpole and Norwood, North American Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanners Market Leadership Award.
