Accellent is preparing to close doors on a couple manufacturing facilities as the device maker navigates its integration with Lake Region Medical Center.
Accellent said that it will close down a plant in Arvada, Colo., resulting in layoffs for some 200 workers. The company is also planning to consolidate a pair of Galway, Ireland, facilities into a single location, but hopes to keep most of those employees.
The changes were made as Accellent reappraised its manufacturing needs amid its integration with Lake Region, which Accellent acquired earlier this year.
"Throughout the last several months we have carefully reviewed the operations of both legacy companies with the intent of defining a center of excellence strategy that best suits the long-term needs of our business," Accellent chairman & CEO Done Spence said in prepared remarks. "As a result we have made the difficult decision to cease manufacturing in our Arvada site by early to mid 2016."
The closures will leave the combined companies with 15 operating sites around the world.
